My story

Hello! I'm Phil.

Swimming for over a decade for Guildford City Swimming Club then finding a local Chinese Kickboxing class captured my interest in sport from a young age. Martial arts, in particular, was something I wanted to excel in. I graded through the colour belts from the age of 18 and by the time I was 32 I had reached the highest dan of 5th degree black belt.

From the age of 21, I was known as "Senior Master Hames" and ran kickboxing classes with sometimes up to 30 students of all ages in a class. I coached them through gradings and nurtured them to be their very best. My eye for correcting technique and posture started here and has continued ever since by embedding discipline and accuracy into all forms of exercise to get the best results for my clients.

I earned a living working as a technical engineer fitting out fire engines for 20 years then started up my own home maintenance business. I enjoyed running my own business but during the first lockdown I was forced to take some time out and it was then I started to reflect on what I really loved so I took the plunge and started qualifying as a Personal Trainer.

Since qualifying I have worked within multiple gym settings and developed strong client relationships. At the age of 47 I bring both wisdom and life experience with a friendly and welcoming style plus a strong desire to ensure everyone is training accurately with the best possible technique.

I would love to hear from you to understand what you'd like to achieve in your own journey. Like me during lockdown, sometimes it's a matter of taking the plunge and making those life changing moments happen!
